The Needs / Charities We Support

WE HELP MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SICK
AND THE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED!

The Cheyenne Day of Giving is not an event created on a whim! Its purpose is to direct goods straight to the people helped by the agencies and charities we support – those which help the sick and the economically disadvantaged. By doing so, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who struggle, not only in this area, but, with bone marrow donor registration, organ/tissue donor registration, leftover prescription medication donation, and used prescription eyeglass donation in far-reaching areas of the world as well.

The needs in our area are tremendous, and they are growing at an alarming rate! We hope people in the Cheyenne area will come together and help alleviate as much of the suffering as possible.

Just look at our list of ways to give and agencies helped by each. All are working hard to make life better for those in need!

Donate blood

  • Vitalant needs 350 units of blood and blood products each week to serve the 18 hospitals in the area.
  • Only one in 20 people regularly give blood, but there is no substitute for blood.
  • Each year, more than 4 million Americans depend on blood transfusions for their very lives – and we can help fill that need!

Donate leftover prescription medications and medical supplies.

  • The Wyoming Medication Donation Program allows residents to donate leftover medications so that through their doctors, patients who meet income guidelines can receive free medications.
  • Some medications which cannot be used in our area may be sent to missionaries in other countries.
  • GoodHealthwill receives medical supplies donated to the Day of Giving and provides them at no or low cost to people in need in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming, working closely with Cheyenne Health and Wellness.

Donate durable medical equipment

  • GoodHealthwill collects durable medical equipment and healthcare supplies and provides them to the public thrift-store style.

– Donate used eyeglasses, hearing aids, and cell phones with chargers

  • Frontier Lions Club works in service to others and uses the Lions Club network to get the eyeglasses and hearing aids to patients in need.
  • They also collect used cell phones with chargers and hand those off to Safehouse Services, which gives them to the abused women in shelter at their facility so they will always have a way to call 911.

Register as a bone marrow donor

  • Register with the National Marrow Donor Program by going to bethematch.org and following the directions there.  If you are between 18 and 44 years old and in general good health, we hope you will  register.  We will have volunteers available at the event to answer questions and help with registration as needed.
  • Over 12,000 patients a year need an unrelated bone marrow transplant, but thousands will not find a match.
  • Most people find a match from a donor of the same heritage, so it is important for healthy people of all backgrounds between 18 and 44 years old to register.
  • Bone marrow transplant is the only hope of a cure for many patients with blood diseases such as leukemia, aplastic anemia, and other immune system disorders.

Register as an organ/tissue donor

  • Donate Life Wyoming encourages as many people as possible, regardless of age and health, to register as potential organ/tissue donors.
